The Amazon receives dust from the Sahara

Dust from the Sahara travels thousands of kilometres across the Atlantic, carrying phosphorus to the Amazon rainforest. Around 27.7 million tonnes of African dust reach the Amazon Basin each year. Two very different landscapes, connected by the atmosphere. Sources: NASA Earth Observatory, NASA CALIPSO, Geophysical Research Letters.
